This jacket again! I’ve already done some spring cleaning and culled my closet, so it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s a classic wardrobe staple. According to whom, you might ask?? How about SANDRA MOTHERFREAKIN’ DEE. Or actually, whomever she turned into when she said “goodbye” to Sandra Dee.

It is pleasing and functional, with or without a billowing blond fro. (But preferably with — next time.)

Fringe! The fringiest. I’m in. You may have seen this tote on the blog “shop” page. I had debated buying it and then it sold out. So recently when it came back in stock I managed to snag it (on sale, yes!) at the Shopbop sitewide event. It only seemed right to wear it with ankle wrap sandals and turquoise jewelry.

So I have a weakness for lace-up sandals (I own these and these), and I just happened upon these Fredas. Gorgeous. I love the texture and barely-there color, plus they stop short of wrapping around the ankles so your legs stay looking long. How genius is that?

Overall, I’m definitely a pants person by default. They’re flattering and functional. But dresses become a lot less daunting with easy footwear. I wore this to the first day of Picnic at the Presidio this weekend and could (literally) run all around in this outfit. Dresses and sneakers — why haven’t I tried this sooner??

To be fair, there wasn’t as much running as I’d like. Mostly just time spent waiting for my meal at the food trucks. (The lines were INSANE.) But after a very hectic week last week, it was actually kind of a relief to spend a lazy Sunday in line, catching up with girlfriends.

Double Down

I seldom see any articles on fashion rules, unless it’s in the context of “XZY Fashion Rules to Break Immediately”. Breaking the rules is fun. Following rules, unfun. Unless they come from Parisians, in which case, please tell us your secrets.

But…I’ll share a guideline anyway. When I want an outfit to look like it all goes, I’ll often incorporate each main color (or a variation of that color) at least twice. So here we have two shades of gray and three pops of black.

So I’m finally taking a painting class. I’ve wanted to do one for awhile, just for fun, and so has a friend, so we decided to become accountabilibuddies and take one together.

It’s an acrylics class and I find it really satisfying that you get to glob paint on and it dries really quickly. It’s not that I’m amazing at it (might have something to do with the aforementioned globbing technique), but it feels good to zone out for a few hours each week and really be in the moment.

I’m trying to channel that flow today for the work week. Here’s an (unintentional) mix of a painterly print, tones and tints. Happy Tuesday!

Valentine’s Day

The holiday of consumerism and love came early this year. Chris will be out of town next weekend for our friend’s bachelor party so we celebrated Valentine’s Day this weekend instead, with some flowers for me and dinner for us. I was excited to wear this bustier again for the first time since New Year’s Eve.

Next weekend will be filled with low-key revelry too, in the form of a night in with girlfriends. Plenty of love and sour gummy candy to go around!

Stripe Season

It feels like spring in San Francisco and the season calls for a striped shirt! Actually, winter called for one too but who’s counting. This is what I wore to Superbowl Sunday. I don’t have Patriots or Seahawks ties but I didn’t spill pizza on my clothes, so I still felt like a winner at the end.
