Just to be clear – I was not a cute baby. I asked my mom if she could send over a pic of herself when she was in her 20s, because she was a very stylish lady back then. Instead, she sent me four emails filled with baby pictures of me and my brother. My brother was a cute kid. When we were little, my mom says people would stop and say, “Your baby boy is adorable!” and she’d stick me in their faces and say, “Look at this one!” because she was worried I’d somehow process what was happening, and she didn’t want me to feel left out.
Anyway, my mom wrote an article on what it was like being South Asian and raising me and my brother. I wrote a follow up on what it was like being raised by her.
